Caravan Wheel Clamps – Security and Safety

A Wheel clamp is a very important Caravan Accessory especially in the fight against theft. They are often used for securing a vehicle but can also be used to lock down a trailer, hitch or other similar vehicle stopping system. On a car, a Wheel clamp is usually fixed to the underside of the wheel (usually on the driveshaft) and used to lock a trailer securely. On a trailer these are useful to prevent trailers from being stolen as they make it more difficult for would-be thieves to steal the trailer.

Caravan wheel Clamps are also used for a variety of other reasons. For example, a wheel clamp attached to the underside of the trailer will stop the wheels being moved by any accidental movements and they are also useful for securing a bike rack or bike carrier. Some manufacturers sell caravan wheel clamps that are designed for use on bikes, while others specifically sell clamps for other types of vehicles like RVs and boats. The type of clamp you buy will depend on what it is to be used for, however there are many models available in all different price ranges. The main advantage of buying a wheel clamp instead of a hitch lock or similar locking device is that they are far cheaper and easier to install than hitch locks and trailer securing devices.

The major disadvantage of using caravan wheel clamps rather than other security devices is that they do not offer as much security as car and bike locking systems. If your caravan has a security device fitted then most modern models will provide at least some form of protection against being stolen whilst a trailer or car is secured. If this protection is poor then the cost of replacing the caravan may be greater than buying the wheel clamp itself. On top of this, most caravans come with their own locking system anyway so it may be preferable to buy a wheel clamp rather than another piece of security equipment.
